In 2005, I bought an Averatec laptop at the microcenter store in Cambridge, MA.
When I got it home, I realized that the frame was "bent" - the laptop did not lie flat on a table (the front left was bent up a little, like a table that wobbles on three legs)
After about a year, the plastic hinge holding the screen broke, which made it difficult to position the screen, and this part is part of the case, so it can't be replaced.
Someone stepped on my Averatec, so I went and bought a Toshiba Satellite C645 in Aug of 2010.
This computer is defective, either by design or bad part: the area where you rest your right hand, in front of hte keyboard, is so hot that it is difficult to rest your hand on the computer. This might be because the computer is poorly designed, or something has gone wrong in the cooling.
The Toshiba also has a flaw in that the case has a sharp, poorly fitting edge in the front.
Summary: two laptops from microcenter, both with serious problems.

I wonder if it was just those particular laptops. Do you go back to Microcenter to see if they could do anything about either issue? I bought a Gateway desktop in 2005. It seemed to work fine for me up until about a year ago. I bought a refurbished laptop about 3 years ago. Recently the WiFi went out and how the USB ports are "acting-up." They don't always work. I figure they've both been used for their typical life spans. So, once again I'm looking to MicroCenter for my next laptop.
